PRODUCE F.A.Q.'S

CAN I ORDER A CASE OF APPLES?

Yes, just like in our grocery department you can order you a case of almost any product you want.

WHY DON'T YOU HAVE ASPARAGUS YEAR ROUND?

At Wheatsfield we want to make sure your food miles stay minimal. By doing this we may not have every product year round due to seasonal availability.

WHY ARE YOUR BANANAS MORE EXPENSIVE?

We source fairly trade bananas. These bananas are grown without chemicals and some of the proceeds are invested back into the communities they are grown in. Read this article for more info.

Once you try our produce you won't go back. Why? It's fresher and more flavorful, almost always certified organic and often local.

During the height of the Iowa harvest season, expect to find local produce from asparagus to zucchini grown by as many as 25 local growers. As the local market changes and greenhouses pop up on the countryside, expect to see more and more Iowan grown produce year round. Curious about the the local growers that sell to Wheatsfield? Read about them here!

When we can't source locally in the produce department, we offer a diverse array of organic and fair trade produce, each labeled with the state or country of origin. Our selection changes throughout the seasons to offer the freshest products. Look for asparagus in the spring, greens in the summer, squash in the fall and citrus in the winter.

Want to try something? Don't be afraid to ask for a sample. We are happy to let you taste the freshness.
