Soper Farms has created quite a stir in the Emmetsburg community since its founding in 2011. Soper Farms is a family-run enterprise with all 69 living family members, ranging in age from 1 to 90 years, acting as stockholders and decision makers in the business. All unanimously agreed to Harn Soper's idea of transitioning 260 acres from conventional corn and soybeans to organic vegetables and livestock.

The family has been centered in the Emmetsburg area since 1846, when their ancestors started buying land in the area. That history is one of the foundations of their business, to respect their "Old Roots" while creating "New Shoots."

They are planning on 120 acres of pasture for a calf/cow operation and 9,000 pasture-raised broiler chickens in addition to 80 acres for organic vegetables. They hope the farm will grow to operate on wind and solar power and use energy generated from compost.
