LOCAL @ THE CO-OP
|Picket Fence Creamery|
Jeff, Jill, Jenna, & James Burkhart milk 80 Jersey cows which not only produce flavorful, but milk with a consistently higher protein, calcium, and mineral content. The Burkhart’s cows graze on chemical-free pasture grasses, drink safe, fresh and clean rural water, are not injected with artificial hormones and the milk is non-homogenized to reduce processing.
Along with milk, Picket Fence produces ice cream and cheese curds. They also sell some meat to the co-op.
In 2011 we awarded Picket Fence Creamery "Wheatsfield Local Producer of the Year" due to their continued efforts and involvement with the co-op.
Mike and Jason Bandstra’s years of on-farm experience combined with formal agricultural education backgrounds have been critical to their ability to produce an outstanding farmstead cheese.
