Miles to the Co-op: 32.1

Jeff, Jill, Jenna, & James Burkhart milk 80 Jersey cows which not only produce flavorful, but milk with a consistently higher protein, calcium, and mineral content. The Burkhart’s cows graze on chemical-free pasture grasses, drink safe, fresh and clean rural water, are not injected with artificial hormones and the milk is non-homogenized to reduce processing.

In the 2% and whole milk, there is a line of cream at the top of the jug that can either be poured off for use in coffee, in cooking, on cereal, to make ice cream, or to be simply shaken into the jug for a very delicious-tasting milk. Picket Fence milks are bottled on site and vat pasteurized to retain flavor and nutrients.

Along with milk, Picket Fence produces ice cream and cheese curds. They also sell some meat to the co-op.

In 2011 we awarded Picket Fence Creamery "Wheatsfield Local Producer of the Year" due to their continued efforts and involvement with the co-op.
