What is a co-op?

A co-op is a member-owned business. Read more about co-ops here.

Are you a chain store?

We are the only Wheatsfield! We have been community-owned and located in Ames since 1974. We are a part of the National Cooperative Grocers Association along with many other co-ops around the country. We work together to get you the best deals and value added services to benefit the co-op!

How big is your store?

We have just over 6,000 sq ft of retail space. That's enough to be a one-stop shop, but not enough where walking to the back of the store for the product you forgot is a pain! From organic produce to cotton balls to eco products for your baby, we have it all. If we don't have the item you want on our shelves, we can probably preorder it for you. Feel free to call the store and ask if we have the item or brand you want.

When do you receive your shipments?

The vast majority of our grocery items are shipped twice a week. We receive those shipments on Mondays and Thursdays. Produce is delivered on Monday and Friday. Local produce comes whenever it is picked during the harvest months! Other deliveries may fluctuate depending on demand. If you want to know when a certain product will be delivered, call the store!

How do I join and what are the benefits?

Stop in, fill out or drop off your new member application, decide on your payment method, and you're a new member! Here are a few benefits to membership?

Can I shop there if I'm not a member?

Yes, everyone is welcome to shop at the co-op. Members receive benefits!

Do you have gluten-free items? Can you make gluten-free baked goods?

We have plenty of gluten-free items including fresh items from our bakery.

Where are you located and how do I get there?

We are located at 413 Northwestern Ave., just off main street. Just take Main Street all the way west, over the Grand Ave. bridge and around the curve where Main will turn into Northwestern. We are on the west side. If you need detailed instructions from your location, call us! 515-232-4094

What's the difference between organics and natural products?

A lot! There is no certification or guidelines for natural products. Companies can advertise just about any product as natural. Read more about that here.
