Miles to the Co-op: 160.8

Located in the rolling valleys of Iowa’s beautiful Loess Hills, Sawmill Hollow grows acres of organic aronia berries. After attending a conference on aronia berries, Vaughn and Cindy Pittz's interest was peaked and soon they had developed the first commercial organic aronia berry plantation in the United States.

The Pittz, joined by their son Andrew, enjoy sharing the health benefits of the aronia berry. They use the berry to produce wellness products, wine, salsa and even BBQ sauce. They are crazy about the berry and each year, in September, they host an annual Aronia Berry Festival that you won’t want to miss. They are also passionate about helping nonprofits. They pay nonprofits to help pick the aronia berries, there are just so many berries!

Visit their website or Facebook profile. We featured Sawmill Hollow Family Farm in our September 2011 Field Journal.
