Madhouse Brewing is the second local business endeavor for Mason Groben, who helps run the Jasper Winery with his parents. Mason was looking for work in the off season of wine making and decided that his understanding of the fermentation process would lead to some great beers. He teamed up with Allen Wells and converted one of the old Maytag washing machine facilities into his brewery.

Mason has dreams of growing hops on Iowa soil, but is currently focusing on producing quality beer. The brewery is still very young- distribution began in January 2010. The city of Newton is welcoming the brewery with open arms after the Maytag franchise left the town without one of its major industries. Groben understands the tie the town had to Maytag and named one of his first brews "Pastime" after Maytag's first washing machine.
